Was also named as Duke in Bishops Transcript of marriage of son Joseph On 1851 Census return although name is obscured by ink blot it could well be "Duke" and I am therefore assuming that he was known by this nickname rather than by his given name of James. Interesting point to note, Trevor always called Aubrey and Evelyn (his parents) Duke and Duchess!! History repeating itself?? 4) Joseph WRIGHT/M, birth 17 mar 1804 Debden, Essex, England, baptised 29 apr 1804 Parish Church, Debden, Essex, England Labourer who was living at Roost Lane, Saffron Walden, at time of marriage to Martha Richardson also living in Roost Lane, Saffron Walden - on marriage record in Bishops Transcripts it is noted that the father of Joseph is "DUKE" Wright - it must have been a nickname as the age given by Joseph on the 1851 census return tallies with the birth registered in Debden of Joseph in 1804 to a James and Anne Wright. I am therefore assuming that this couple are the direct line and that the name "Duke" was purely a nickname. Joseph had himself baptised again (probably didn't realise he had already been baptised) at the Parish Church in Saffron Walden on 8 April 1866 when it was stated that he was 59 years old - he probably lied about his age on his second marriage as there was quite a discrepancy between ages after this time, and he was certainly consisderably older than Martha!!
